It considers the trends in retirement and upsurge in younger workers entering the workforce and progressing in their careers.   • HR Series: Managing Flexible Work Arrangements

    This session will explore the benefits of flexible work arrangements: what works well, challenges, and things to consider as a manager when implementing and managing flexible work arrangements.

    (90 minutes) Colorado and Maryland offer a wide variety of activities to enjoy outside of work, and the central sponsored projects offices at the University of Colorado Boulder, Colorado State University, and University of Maryland Baltimore are committed to supporting our staff’s work-life balance.  Flexible work arrangements – part-time schedules, telecommuting both part and full-time, and flex time – have become a normal part of our staff’s schedule. This session will explore the benefits of flexible work arrangements:  what works well, challenges, and things to consider as a manager when implementing and managing flexible work arrangements. 

    Time will be provided for discussion and questions.

    Who are the challenging people in our office? Does our staff consider us the challenging person in our office? Trying to reason with a person whose behavior is difficult can be the most difficult part of our job.

Trying to reason with a person whose behavior is difficult can be the most difficult part of our job. How we show up in a conversation can have a big impact on our business relationships and communications.

    When we are having a challenge communicating with someone in our office, it can come from a number of reasons including:

    • The other person’s lack of self-awareness
    • Our lack of self-awareness
    • Different priorities
    • Different communication styles
    • An absence of trust

    We can’t reason with someone who is behaving unreasonably. The good news is there are proven techniques to manage these situations and to manage ourselves to build accountability and trust.

    Our world is experiencing additional stresses and increased remote communication due to COVID-19.  Join us as we take the time to support our business relationships and communications.
