Human-Led, AI-Assisted is a hands-on workshop designed to help research administrators apply artificial intelligence through practical prompting and role-relevant use cases. The content of this session is informed by overwhelming survey responses collected from the research administration community through the ResAdm listserv and LinkedIn, providing a broad, practitioner-driven view of current needs, concerns, and opportunities related to AI use. Participants will actively practice prompt development using realistic research administration scenarios such as drafting communications, summarizing guidance, supporting documentation, and improving workflow efficiency. Guided exercises and discussion will focus on how to structure effective prompts, evaluate AI-generated outputs, and translate community-identified “wish list” use cases into responsible, policy-aware applications. Throughout the workshop, human expertise, judgment, and compliance oversight remain central, with AI positioned as a support tool that enhances, rather than replaces, research administration work.

Learning Objectives
Upon completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Interpret survey findings to identify high-value AI use cases within research administration.
• Develop and refine effective prompts tailored to common research administration tasks.
• Evaluate AI outputs for accuracy, appropriateness, and compliance considerations.
• Distinguish between tasks suitable for AI assistance and those requiring human judgment or institutional oversight.
• Apply prompting techniques to support communication, documentation, and workflow efficiency.
• Identify next steps for responsibly incorporating AI-assisted prompting into their own roles and institutional environments.

Prerequisites
Required: Participants must bring a laptop or device with an internet connection to participate in the hands-on activities. 

Recommended: To get the most out of the session, attendees should have access to a modern AI assistant (such as the ChatGPT models referenced in the workshop). 

Mindset: A "beginner's mind" and a willingness to experiment are essential. No advanced technical expertise is required, but basic familiarity with using a chatbot is helpful.

Participants receive 3.25 hours of continuing education credits.

If that person has never logged in to the Online Learning Center their name will not come up. Please have them go to the NCURA website to create a profile, then log into this registration site. This initial login is required for the registration site to communicate with NCURA's database. After that, you will be able to add them to your registration.*
